“True success is achieving your greatest attainable balance between every facet of your life.” – T. David Rush
As consultants, we solve problems for a living. I solve them in business, my wife solves them in life. Part of solving problems is identifying them in the first place. Information and analysis is key.
What do we know? What do we have? What are our results? What is working? What is not?
Are we aligned with our vision? Is our vision aligned with what we truly desire? Where are the gaps and how can we address them?
You make just enough of a plan to execute, then . . . and this is the important part . . . you pull the trigger. Ready, fire, aim. Too many people plan themselves into paralysis.
When the action is taken you evaluate, correct and then continue. These are the keys of agility. It’s a powerful tool in business and is becoming a key tenant in creating our best life.
Our decisions are not simply about traveling the world, experiencing what our big, beautiful blue has to offer. This is part adventure, part introspection and part evaluation of what other options are out there; it’s about personal growth.
“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Our lives, and the loved ones we share them with, are a gift. It should never be about just getting by, making it through. There are no prizes at the end, only the wake of experiences, moments and impacts we have left behind.
There is a lot of strife in the world, you do no service by joining it. It’s hard to pull someone out of the trench when you’re stuck in there with them. Be generous to others, but also be generous to yourself. I believe one of our greatest purposes is to create our best life; especially if we can help others find what works best for them in the process without being held captive to their outcome.
We are personally successful in business because we genuinely care about the outcomes of our clients, working hard to give them the best solutions; that keeps them asking for more . . . which is critical in business. But we have also tried to do the best that we can in life as we travel through it. People who know us know that we tend to think outside the box, focus on what’s best for our family, go with what works for us and make no apologies. This decision is no different. In that tradition, this is a re-evaluation and taking action towards redesigning our lives going forward.
“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw
Our Lifestyle 2.0 blog will explain where we were, what lead us to evaluate something new, and our thinking leading up to this material shift. We will explain what areas of life we are looking to change, how we’ve approached it, what we’ve learned and how we would do it different, if at all.
What works, what doesn’t and what’s next! (Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?)
Again, this is an evaluation. The beauty of what we are doing is, if we no longer savour the flavour, we can always go back to the good life that we had. But to quote Jim Collins, “Good is the enemy of great.” Like in business, evaluation gives us the option of something possibly better. So I say, let’s go after a great life.
“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make, the better.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
