One World

If we could choose how to spend our new-found time, what would we do with it? Our lives are modelled after the world we know.

What if we went on an adventure? Imagine what more we could learn about the world, and ourselves in our quest for lifestyle redesign.

We decided, as a family, to take a closer look at the wider world around us. It is astonishing what you can discover when you give the world a chance.

One World Eye

Our daughter's eye with the world in her sights.

Seeing the world through the eyes of a child makes you believe that possibilities are truly endless … and that there are things in the world that are rightfully scary. Both of which are ingredients of life.

“Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

We want to experience people, places, culture, food, art and architecture around the world.

There is so much our family can learn from world travel. How the simplest things we take for granted back home become treasured. How other cultures live life differently. Clever innovations and age-old traditions that improve the quality of life that, for some reason, haven’t been adopted where we grew up.

“We must let go of the life we had planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us” – Joseph Campbell

When you sell all of your possessions, including your house, the world becomes your home. So why not explore it!?

What an unmatched educational experience for our family.

What can we retain from the life we know, and learn from other areas of the world, that will support our lifestyle redesign? Unencumbered by possessions, with our new-found agility, we have the advantage of adopting what works and casting aside what doesn’t.

We have always dreamed of world travel. We asked ourselves, if we looked back 20 years from now and hadn’t done it, would we regret it? The answer was a resounding, yes!

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear.” – Mark Twain

Ultimately we want to live the best life we can. Adding the wider options of other cultures and world experiences to our palette makes this possibility more attainable.

From learning to truly savour life and the experiences she has to offer, to better understanding others around the world, will help make us more complete human beings and better global citizens.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” – Helen Keller

A Canada Day to Remember

It’s a strange thing to watch another country celebrate your nation; it stirs something in you. We find ourselves in the lush northern countryside of Normandy, France, on July 1st; it’s Canada’s 145th birthday. Our ruby Maple Leaf flies high all around us as a live band plays our national anthem. Juno Beach was Canada’s breach point into Nazi-occupied France as part of the Allied invasion that heralded the turning point of the Second World War. The charming French town of Courseulles-sur-Mer, Normandy, hosts the...
